Organic vs. Conventional Farming

Organic farming is about more than what’s left out—it’s about what it gives back.
By avoiding synthetic pesticides, GMOs, and artificial fertilizers, organic agriculture helps build healthier soil, protect water quality, and support climate-resilient ecosystems over time.

Here’s a quick look at what organic farming typically means compared to conventional approaches.

Conventional Farming

  • Relies on synthetic pesticides and fertilizers.
  • Can degrade soil health over time by reducing organic matter and microbial diversity—especially when intensive tillage and limited crop diversity are used.
  • Often prioritizes short-term yield optimization, which can come at the expense of long-term soil resilience and farm sustainability.
  • Chemical inputs can move beyond fields through runoff, affecting nearby water sources and surrounding communities.
  • Farm workers may face exposure to synthetic pesticides and fertilizers during application and field work.

Organic Farming

  • Certified organic standards prohibit the use of synthetic pesticides, artificial fertilizers, and GMOs.
  • Certified organic standards require farms to maintain and improve soil health—most commonly achieved through practices like composting, cover crops, and crop rotation.
  • Supports biodiversity above and below ground by prioritizing diverse crop systems, beneficial insects, and healthy soil ecosystems.
  • Organic farming practices often improve soil’s ability to retain water, which can reduce irrigation needs over time and help farms be more resilient during droughts.
  • Helps protect local water sources and surrounding communities by supporting soil health practices that reduce runoff and pollution over time.
  • Encourages long-term crop resilience for farmers and farmland.

Healthier soil doesn’t just grow better crops—it helps create more resilient food systems for farmers, communities, and the planet.

Designed to be thoughtful from the inside out

We're Reducing Waste Together

Reducing waste is an ongoing process, and we’re focused on making thoughtful choices across our packaging, shipping, and operations as we grow.

Recyclable Packaging

What We're Doing

  • We use lightweight, BPA-free packaging for our mixes to reduce material use and transportation impact.
  • We package our mixes in stand-up pouches and single-serve packets made from plastic that's recyclable where #7 plastics are accepted.
  • We use recyclable paperboard (#21) for our boxes.

Why It Matters

  • Lighter packaging means less fuel and lower emissions during shipping.
  • Recyclable packaging helps keep packaging out of landfills when properly disposed of.
  • Choosing better options—even imperfect ones—moves us toward more responsible packaging systems over time.

Sustainability isn’t one decision—it’s a series of better ones. We’re committed to making progress and continuing to improve as smarter solutions become available.

Supporting people, communities, and the next generation of entrepreneurs

We're Giving Back Together

Giving back is part of how we show up as a brand. From supporting entrepreneurship to engaging with local communities, we believe impact comes from care and doing what we can—where we are. Beyond formal partnerships, we regularly contribute through product donations for local events, fundraisers, and community initiatives. While these efforts aren’t part of a tracked program, they reflect our belief that small, thoughtful actions matter. As Bare Life grows, we look forward to expanding our giving in ways that align with our mission and values—partnering with causes that support people, communities, and responsible food systems.

What We're Doing

  • Founder-led speaking engagements and mentorship focused on entrepreneurship, food systems, and small business growth.
  • Purpose-driven initiatives, including charitable giving and product donations, tied directly to our products, our mission, and our founder's story.

Why It Matters

  • Mentorship helps lower barriers for aspiring entrepreneurs, especially those creating food, health, or mission-driven businesses.
  • Giving back strengthens the ecosystems that allow small, values-led businesses to exist and grow.
